Yay! "Diamonds and Pearls" finally sold. After being featured in at least 4 treasuries, and getting more than 215 views.

In other news, I joined the "Big Damn Crafters" Street team on Etsy, so you should expect to see some Firefly related crafts popping up soon.

And now, just because I am bored, I give you the "what knitting needle am I?" quiz:

What kind of knitting needles are you?

You are interchangeable.Fun, free, and into everything, you've got every eventuality covered and every opportunity just has to be taken. Every fiber is wonderful, and every day is a new beginning. More yarn! This is similar, but not identical, to the "Morning Magic" yarn I did a week or so ago (and which I am pleased to note has sold from my etsy store).

I call this one "Starlight":

I used the same grey merino, this time plied with a metallic thread that is primarily turquoise and gold, but has a hint of pink when the light catches it just right. Makes me think of twinkling stars.

Tuesday, March 18, 2008

When I got home today, I made this:

It's a threading hook for spinners, and the design is inspired by the Grimm's Fairy Tale, "The Goose Girl." (I still have fairy tales on the brain as it is this month's challenge theme for EtsyFAST.

Am I disturbed for thinking of this?
I have been a busy little spinner the last few weeks.

I call this one "Morning Magic", and I am very pleased with the way it came out. It even got featured in a treasury by redmag, which made it to the front page of Etsy and resulted in a huge number of views for my store...though sadly, no sales.

This one is "Dream Come True", and is a little more girly than I usually go for, but I have been trying to expand my color palette. This is more of the faux cashmere, and boy is it soft.

Diamonds and Pearls

I just finished spinning up some new yarn last night to post in my etsy shop.

"Diamonds and Pearls"

It is white faux cashmere plied with metallic thread which has been strung with swarovski crystals and faux pearls. I was inspired by the fairy tale "Diamonds and Pearls", hence the title.

And it got featured in a treasury by epicurus.

Yay!
Lordavon invited me to be her partner for a swap on Craftster. She specifically asked me to make her some Blake's 7 stuffies. She listed a few of her favorites, and since I had never seen the show, I had to look up pictures of them, which she was also helpful in providing. Anyway, she seemed to like them so here they are:

In return, lordavon knitted me up some spiffy wristwarmers:

These are very soft and warm and fuzzy. I was having difficulty taking pictures of them on me, though.

and earmuffs:

Yes, those are bunny ears. I think they might need some wire around the edges to help them hold their shape, but I really like them, and they will help to keep me warm.

and a stuffed bunny:

Cause you can never have to many stuffed bunnies. Well..I can never have to many stuffed bunnies, anyway.

And finally a bunch of origami, which proved difficult to photograph:

Dead Like Me

I received my items for the Dead Like Me swap, that I thought I would share with you.

Cool tote bag.

Best. Cross Stitch Sampler. EVER.

An eyeball pincushion (as in "Her Big Brown Eyes")...because, everyone needs one.

Cross and Frog pendants/necklace.

Murray and Happy Time stitch markers! Yay! Stitch markers!

Also got this cute pair of gloves, which she did not make, but which I like anyway.

Now, if only the post office would deliver my stuff to her. Am starting to get a bit anxious about it.

So, I have had a very exciting week for my etsy store. On Sat, a customer ordered $50 worth of yarn. Cool, huh? Of course, I spent some of that buying this really awesome barrette, because I always need more hair things.

And then today, I got featured in a treasury from North Star Alpacas so that will hopefully send some more business my way. Yay!

Stuffies!

I participated in another stuffie swap, and my partner and I have both received our new little friends. I got this adorable Totoro:

He is super soft and squishy, and makes a great pillow, and I love him.

And here is what I made for my partner. His name is Phineas:

And, a closeup of his cute face:

Are you getting sick of seeing these yet?

Too bad! 'Cause I am not quite done making them. Still have a few more pairs to go.

This is one of the pair I made for my stepsister.

And this is another pic of the pair I made for the co-worker, so you can see the almost-matching stripes.

As a side note, I should have some non-knitting items to display soon. :)

More Knitting

Finished this pair of cabled handwarmers last night.

This is my first pair that has half-fingers. They were kind of a pain to make, but oh my, they keep your hands super warm.

The best part - these are a special request for a co-worker, who is actually going to pay me for them. Cool, huh? (The novelty of getting paid for my crafting still hasn't worn off).

I am participating in a EtsyFAST promo swap. The idea being that I make and send 50 promotional items and business cards to the organizer, and get 50 promotional items and business cards from the other participants, which I can include in my outgoing orders to help promote their shops, and of course, they'll be promoting mine. So I had to come up with something I could make a lot of, in a relatively short amount of time.

Here we have 25 sets of stitch markers, in varying sizes and styles.

4 bracelets, knit with some of my handspun yarn

And 21 crocheted flower pins, also made from my handspun and/or hand-dyed yarn.

Only now I feel like the stitch markers may be too limiting, since they are not useful for those who crochet...so maybe I should just do more flowers? I really have to mail them by Friday at the latest, if they are going to get to their destination on time. What do you think I should do?

This past week has been a very crafty one. On Monday, I went with paper_wings to the Sudbury SnB. Had coffee, did some knitting, and met some fun new people. Seems like a good group, and I expect I will be going back, even if it is a little out of my way.

Have been trying to get my etsy shop in order, as I pretty much neglected it (along with most everything else) for the whole month of December. Have joined a few groups to try and help promote my stuff and do some networking, but I haven't participated much yet, as I feel like my site needs a lot of work. Mainly, I need to come up with a name for it. I mean...I have my username, but most of my fellow etsyian's have a shop name, and I feel like I need one, along with a banner. So there is definitely work to do. But, I have still managed to sell the occasional piece, and am thrilled that someone finally bought the knitting needle case, so that I feel justified in making more. In addition, I sold some yarn to paper_wings, and accepted 2 commissions for fingerless mittens for my co-workers, so I am feeling good about those things.

I have continued to do a lot of spinning the last few weeks, and am very nearly finished with what I hope will be my very first sock weight yarn. I am so excited at the prospect of making socks from yarn that I spun myself. Have also been knitting my fingers to the bone, I need to finish up the fingerless mitts for J, so that I can start on the other pairs. And then, just for fun, I am currently in 3 swaps. The first is Dead Like Me themed, and I am having so much fun with that. The next is the Invite Your Partner swap, where lordavon asked me to be her partner, and made a request for some little stuffies. And the last is a stuffie swap. Haven't done much in the way of stuffed animals for a few months, and am really enjoying it.

So that's what up in my crafting world these days. Sorry there's no pictures, but hopefully I will have some more stuff to show off soon.

Gave this hat to Gail for Christmas. It is made from Misti Bulky Alpaca and is the softest, squishiest hat ever. Sadly, I didn't get pics of it on Gail, which is a shame, 'cause it was cute.

Joined a Dead Like Me themed swap. Heh. Going to have so much fun with that one.

Gave paper_wings her Christmas present today. Spun her some yarn from the roving I dyed a few weeks ago:

And made her a set of stitch markers:

And just for fun, here's some other yarn that I spun up recently:

Monday, December 24, 2007

My partner for the Spinners/Knitters/Crocheters swap finally received. Part of the swap requirements was to make or dye yarn, so I spun this up from some hand-dyed multicolor roving.

It has all the colors in it.

I also included this cute knit bag as the small to medium sized item:

I especially like the button closure.

And still, another hat

I am very happy with how this one came out. Especially since I didn't have a pattern, but just made it up as I went along, and it only took about 2 hours, and half a skein of yarn.

Also, you like my head? I think I should decoupage it to make it prettier.

I will never be lost in a crowd again

Check out my new hat. Knit from geekpixie's Caschic Hat pattern.

More yarn-y goodness

Sent this off in the mail today, for a personal swap (I am getting a cute tote bag with a sun/moon pattern in return).

Also, I ordered some Moo cards, and got notice that they are on their way to me today. Yay!

Friday, November 30, 2007

I don't have pictures yet of the fiber I dyed with geekpixie because I haven't been to her studio to pick them up. However, I woke up at 4 am the other day and couldn't sleep, so of course, I got out the kool-aid, food coloring and vinegar and went to town.

Absinthe

Oceana

And then I also did a little spinning last week, with some mohair I bought at the Fibertwist.

I went to geekpixie's studio the other night for some dyeing fun. First off, I would like to share with you my awesome Christmas present:

Fantastically purple superwash roving that she dyed just for me. I loves it. Thanks geekpixie!

And because I know some of you are probably dying to see her new hair, here's a silly pic:

And some random shots of the dyeing process:

Tuesday, November 27, 2007

I called the sewing machine repair place yesterday, and my machine is ready to be picked up. Yay! I can't wait to have it back, as I have missed it.

Christmas presents are coming right along. Have finished a present for sydneycat, and am almost halfway done with presents for extrajoker and bdragon. Plus I still have a few finished objects that I have not yet decided on a new home for. Still have lots of stuff to do though.

Also got a special request for some yarn, so I hope to get to work on that tomorrow. Tonight there may be fiber dyeing fun with geekpixie and at any rate, there will be knitting or whatever, so that will be good. Need to keep the crafting energy up.

New Yarns

Have 2 others, but they are either presents or for swaps, so will have to wait to post them.

sales and new techniques

Was very productive yesterday and finished 3 skeins of yarn, and have another on the bobbins, waiting to be plied. Felt very inspired by the fact that my etsy shop is sold out of yarn now, so clearly I need to make more. I have a couple other skeins that I made previously, but I haven't located them yet, and I don't want to put them up for sale if I don't know where they are. :)

I have to thank geekpixie for demonstrating the Andean plying technique when I was at the open studios last month. I actually remembered what it was called all this time later, and was able to look up how to do it on the internetz. Hooray for learning new things!

Christmas present making also goes on apace, though there is still time to submit a request.

Tuesday, November 06, 2007

1 Christmas present down.

I love the giant squishy pom pom.

Yay! Of course, I have who knows how many other presents to make yet, but at least I feel like I am doing something.

Friday, November 02, 2007

First Sale!

I actually had a purchase from my etsy shop today.

Someone paid money for something I made.

How friggin' cool is that?

Windchime/Mobile Swap

My mobile/windchime has been received, so here's a pic:

Although it did not match the original image I had for the design in my head, overall, I am pleased.
